Kolkata Bandh

Kolkata Bandh picsWest Bengal is the departure of two bandhs this end of the month with the Socialist Unity List Center today by calling a 12, one hour, 24 November and the BJP, 30 November.

The bandh was called in protest against the rising prices of essential commodities and the alleged atrocities committed by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) across West Bengal.

While buses and trams plied the government on the roads in town, most private buses stayed away. Flight operations and metro services, however, were normal.

Secretary of State of Origin Ardhendu Sen told reporters that the closure was peaceful, and added that Suci 250 fans were arrested during the day to try to block the railway line.

Ashok Mohan Chakraborty, Chief Secretary of State, said that participation in the State Secretariat was normal.Rail connections, however, took most of the bandh, with supporters squatted on railway tracks and throwing banana leaves overhead led to blackouts.

A statement issued by the Eastern Railways said the train was hit in both Howrah and Sealdah divisions. Trains at Howrah Kharagpur section of Kharagpur division of South East Railway (SER) were also hard hit.

Several long distance trains like Howrah-Secundrabad Falaknuma Express Mail Down Mumbai, Ahmedabad-Howrah Express and Down Down Pune-Howrah Azad Hind Express, among others were arrested in different seasons.
