Charlie Davies Car Accident

Charlie Davies, a forward from the U.S. national soccer team, was involved in a traffic accident early Tuesday in the death of another person, a U.S. spokeman Football.

Davies was in surgery yesterday afternoon and in stable condition, U.S. Soccer spokesman Neil Buethe said. The extent of their injuries was unknown, but Buethe said they were not life threatening.

Davies has spent more than three hours of surgery at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, according to a spokesman for U.S. Soccer. Another person in the car were killed.

"Obviously, as a team we were sorry to learn this news," said coach Bob Bradley in a statement published on the website of U.S. Soccer. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Charlie and his family and people in the car, and the families of others involved. As a team, we support each other in a moment that has turned us hard to ensure that the entire world."

Ashley J. Roberta, 22, of Phoenix, Md., was pronounced dead on the spot at the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Arlington, Virginia, a second woman who was riding in the car were taken to Washington Hospital Center for treatment after his car crashed against metal fence on a stretch of road between the Memorial Bridge and the Pentagon around 3:15, said Sgt. David Schlosser, a spokesman for police in the U.S. Navy.

It was unclear who was driving the car, but Michael Kammarman, a spokesman for U.S. Soccer, said no other U.S. team members or the staff involved. Davies parents were on their way to Washington, San Diego.
