Easy Naan Bread Recipe

Getting There
In a glass measuring cup, combine yeast and sugar. Add water and stir well. Let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes. Sift together flour and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in center of flour and pour yeast mixture and oil in the center. Mix with fingers until it forms a soft dough, working in a small amount of flour as necessary. Knead for 3 minutes.

Oil a small bowl with the remaining butter or oil. Place dough in bowl, turning to coat and let stand to double size, about 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Divide the dough into 6 pieces and gently roll into 6 circles on a slightly floured surface. Bake in an oven stone or greased baking sheet until golden brown and puffed, about 12 minutes.

Serve immediately.

Method

1. Put milk in a bowl. Add 1 teaspoon sugar and yeast. Stir to mix. Aside for 15-20 minutes or until yeast is dissolved and mixture is frothy.

2. Sprinkle flour, salt and baking powder in a large bowl. Add remaining 1 teaspoon sugar, yeast mixture, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and yogurt and eggs. Mix and form a ball of dough.

3. Empty the ball of dough on a clean surface and knead for 10 minutes longer or until smooth and satiny. Form a ball. Pour about 0.25 teaspoons oil in a large bowl and roll the dough ball in it. Tires forehead with a piece of plastic wrap and set aside in a warm, draft-free for one hour or until dough has doubled in volume.

4. Preheat oven to highest temperature. Put yourself heaviest baking tray to heat in the oven. Preheat grill.

5. Punch down dough and knead again. They are divided into 6 equal balls. Keep 5 of them covered while you are working with the sixth. Roll ball into a teardrop shape naan, about 25 cm long and 13 cm at its widest part. Remove the hot baking sheet from oven and slap the naan on it. Place immediately in oven for 3 minutes. It should blow up. Now, place the baking tray and naan on the grill, about 7.5-10cm from the heat for about 30 seconds, or until the top of Brown's easy naan. Wrap the naan in a clean tea towel. Make all the naan this way and serve hot.
