Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday led the nation in honor of Mahatma Gandhi on 140thanniversary of the birth.
Ansari, Singh, UPA president Sonia Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition LK Advani were among the personalities who offered floral tributes at Rajghat, the memorial for the father of the nation this morning.
Foreign Minister SM Krishna, Defense Minister AK Antony, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and ministers of state were Shashi Tharoor, and Krishna Tirath, among others, who came to the monument to pay their respects.

The tragedy of Tlatelolco slaughter refers to the student government, the civilian demonstrators and bystanders at Tlatelolco in Mexico City. It took place on 2 October 1968. Incident occurred ten days before the end of the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.
As part of the celebrations, will groups in Gandhi's ashram in Ahmedabad is connected directly via the Internet with participants at Gandhi Memorial in Chapultepec Park, Mexico. They will discuss issues of ahimsa (non violence). The people of Jamalpur (India) and area of Tepito (Mexico), with which OraWorldMandala working on the peace process to build a model of education through art ahimsa, participate in the artistic offerings.
U.S. Ambassador Timothy Roemer G also offered floral tributes at Rajghat.
